Dates and Deadlines
Knowlege acquired in the Bachelor course of study is advanced in the Master course of study. There are multiple concentration possibilities. Students can create an individual career oriented academic profile, according to the selection of modules in the subject geography, the selection of the minor, and the selection of supplementary modules from other RWTH specific subjects
In the Economic Geography Master’s program there are several specialization options.
- Industry and innovation
- Tourism, urban and regional marketing
- Logistics, traffic, trade
- Alternative substitution of one of the modules with a module from applied geography
- and compulsory methods and excursions modules.
Specialization in the Concentrations (2 modules are selected)
- Technology- oriented economic development
- Telecommunication and logistics
- EU regional relations
- Urban planning and urban traffic
- Airport management
- Administrative law and municipal management
- Environmental management
Part of the program requires that students do a course-related internship and write a Master’s thesis in the last semester.
The minor subjects can be selected from a variety of related disciplines including waste management and environmental technology, biology, geology, computer science, mathematics, raw material supply of industrialized countries, urban water and waste sector, urban planning, transportation and land use and economics.
A prerequisite for starting studies in a first university degree, with which the necessary background education can be proven, as determined in the exam regulations. The exam board determines whether it fulfills the entrance requirements.
Given that the program is heavily application-oriented there are career prospects in a number of occupations. Graduates work in the following areas in Germany and abroad:
- In private sector companies:
Location management, marketing, coordinated administration, PR activities, controlling, consulting, editing, IT management, media companies, environmental protection /consulting, telecommunication, city management, real estate industry, financial services, traffic management, cross-border coordination, EU-oriented consulting tasks, tourism and leisure industry
- In public administration:
Land use planning and urban planning, regional development /management, environmental management, nature conservation planning, neighborhood /city management, economic development, GIS-based planning and coordination activities, development cooperation and international authorities
The professional qualification offers good opportunities in independent entrepreneurial activities, e.g., in consulting offices or in service companies as external service providers for the above-mentioned fields.
Regulations that apply for all Bachelor and Master courses of study as well as detailed information about the necessary documentation of required language skills can be found in RWTH’s Comprehensive Examination Regulation. Examination regulations are only published in German as they are legally binding.
Subject Specific Exam Regulations regulate academic goals, the course of study layout, and exam procedures. The appendix to the regulations contains the description of the modules, from which the course of study is composed.
