Our Profile

The Chair of Information and Automation Systems represents automation technology in research and teaching, with a focus on smart manufacturing and digitalisation in the process industry. Research is focused on dynamic and automated configuration of large-scale information and automation systems for the realisation of data-intensive, flexibly deployable solutions. Various automation systems and demonstrators are used for testing in our digital laboratory.

Diverse cooperations with research institutions, associations and companies enable us to carry out projects for the development and standardisation of industrial IT and automation as well as the digitalisation and optimisation of plants and value chains, especially in process and materials technology. The chair plays a leading role in the interdisciplinary master's degree programme in automation technology at RWTH Aachen University.

There is currently a vacancy for a research assistant with a specialist focus on the topic: Design and configuration of networks of explicitly controllable technical units 

Your Profile

University degree (Master or equivalent) in electrical engineering, computer science or automation technology (or comparable courses of study related to process automation) with very good academic performance

Enthusiasm for solving technical challenges

Initiative, team spirit and creativity

Good to very good knowledge of German and English

Your Duties and Responsibilities

Independent implementation of research projects and industry cooperations at the interface between research and industrial practice

Participation in committees of the associations VDI, DKE, ZVEI and NAMUR

Publication of results in the scientific environment (conferences, journals)

Supervision of courses and scientific papers

Acquisition of industrial and publicly funded research projects

Further development of the teaching and research infrastructure of the chair


What We Offer

The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term initially for a year.
An extension of up to 5 years is planned.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
